CDO Music Group was formed February 2002 as a result of the events of September 11, 2001.
Before Sept 11, I was writing a new song every day as I commuted 90 miles one way to work. When Sept 11 happened
it was only natural for me to write about it. So I wrote, and wrote and wrote, 13 songs in all about 911 alone though I've written
well over 300 songs and poems. As our nation was reeling from the attack, I felt compelled to try to put my writings to work
to help heal a nation in crisis. A few local musician friends of mine got together to record some of the music for the purpose of giving away to
those in the media who would lead the nation in psychological recovery. As a private individual, few broadcasters would even speak
to me as I attempted to give my music away. Therefore it was necessary to form an organization to represent my musical offering.
CDO Music Group was formed as a result. CDO stands for "Carl Dorsey Original" a name given to my writings by a college
girlfriend nearly 20 years ago. Though I am a non-profit at heart, it was quicker to form a for-profit, sole-proprietorship than it was to form
a non-profit. That is why my music is available for anyone to download free of charge. As a matter of principle I
refused to sell the 911 CD we recorded until after the one-year anniversary all the while having it available to listen
to free on-line to this day. Of the first production run of 100, nearly fifty were given away to firefighters and police officers in New York.
I have given away three times as many as I have sold because my heart derived from my Christian lay-ministry is a non-profit. Since I
was employed as a scientist/engineer, the expense didn't matter.
I recorded more of the music that was dormant in my collection, particularly the tribute to motherhood titled
A Mother's Love followed by an Intimate Worship collection called Intimate With God. While preparing to record the intimate worship
collection, the war in Iraq began. I then turned my musical energies towards honoring the men and women of the US Armed Forces who
were stuck in between the controversy of war. Though I had hoped for a diplomatic solution to the conflict, I gave the President the benefit of the
doubt and did all that I could to support our troops including hosting a weekly TV show called A Soldier's Salute, and holding weekly concerts to
collect phone cards for the troops. I have been to three military funerals resulting from operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. I have cried many tears
after seeing mothers, wives and children weep over loved ones lost. As the war progressed and the casualties mounted, I wrote and wrote and wrote,
just like with 911. That is where the military songs came from. It was unwise to spend money on music that was
important to me but not as important to others so I had to re-write the military songs to fit the music planned for the worship collection and
other projects.
If you think that it is important to create patriotic music for the younger generation, and to celebrate virtues like motherhood,
to encourage people to aspire to a deeper personal spirituality, and celebrate the men and women who put their lives on the line to protect the American
way of life, then consider making a donation to our work or purchasing CD's. If not, this site may not be in existence when the current
hosting contract expires. It would be nice to know that others are willing to support our
effort to use music to build up and not tear down. The next time you find yourself shaking your head about contemporary popular music, remember those
who want that stuff buy it. If you want something different and positive, buy it. God Bless!
